Explorers CFA test on Monday the 22

Please study and turn in all your missing work.

Mastering the math facts!!!!

Please encourage your children to master the math facts so they can be successful and move on to other, more challenging, math concepts with ease. We will take the CFA test for this unit (Multiplication and Division) next week.

The Best Field Trip Ever!!

Our students had a fantastic time. We truly thank all the chaperons that went with us. We had a chance to see a phenomenal show about bugs in the rain forest at the IMAX theater.
Due to the recent snow storm we are still covering the following concepts.

In Language Arts we will be learning more about fiction. We will study about folklore and learn about folk tales, tall tales, fairy tales, trickster tales, legends, myths, and por quois. The students usually enjoy reading this genre because they are familiar with the stories. We will also continue to learn and practice correct grammar and spelling. Finally, we will begin writing in cursive and be graded on it at the end of the 3^rd quarter. Please encourage your student to practice it and become proficient.

In Mathematics we will be learning about multiplication and division as families so students can understand the inverse relationship between the two operations. For example 5X5=25 because 25 divided by 5 is 5. Students will be given a families booklet, a math wheels chart, and a regular multiplication chart. Please use either of the charts to help your child prepare for math facts testing. Mastering basic operations in 3^rd grade is one of the most important building blocks of mathematics.

In Social Studies we will learn about Explorers of North America.

I hope this news letter was informative and helps you stay current with your child’s learning program. Please remember that reading AR for 30 minutes and practice math facts should be done daily. I also encourage you to visit the SOL Prep and Practice test sites listed in the Henderson’s website menu, and allow your child to take practice tests so he/she becomes familiar with the format in the computer. Our next social studies unit of study will be about Explorers of North America.
You can begin learning about the following people: Christoper Newport, Juan Ponce de Leon, Christopher Columbus, and Jaques Cartier. You can also visit Study Island and read all of the lessons and take the corresponding tests.

You can have fun and browse this link www.puzzlemaker.com can create a fun worksheet for the classroom. Just print one and we will make copies at school. Make sure you know the answers. The subject has to be related to what we are learning now in any subject.
